What exactly is cayenne pepper?
Cayenne pepper (Capsicum annuum) belongs to the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and is native to South and Central America. There, cayenne is an indispensable spice in traditional cuisine. Externally, the cayenne resembles the sweet bell pepper, but has a more pointed shape.
