What is L-theanine?
L-theanine is a form of the non-proteinogenic amino acid theanine. A non-proteinogenic amino acid is not involved in protein biosynthesis.[1] L-theanine is found in the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis, among others. Green tea usually contains a higher theanine content than black tea. However, the amount of theanine in teas depends on the fermentation of the tea leaves[2].
