What is Now Foods, Red Mineral Algae?
The Now Foods product is characterized by Aquamin®, which is a multi-mineral complex from marine red algae (Lithothamnion spp.). The essential minerals are particularly bioavailable in this form and can be optimally utilized and used by the body.
Aquamin® provides a sufficient amount of calcium and magnesium and also contains over 70 naturally occurring trace elements. Vitamin D is also present in the form of the plant-based ergocalciferol (vitamin D2). The product is therefore also suitable for vegans.

Magnesium
Many important functions in the body depend on an adequate supply of magnesium . The mineral is mainly known for its role in maintaining bones and teeth and for muscle function .[1] As our body cannot produce magnesium itself , the need for magnesium must be met by consuming the following magnesium-containing foods: Wholemeal products, dairy products, fruit, vegetables, nuts, poultry, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and chocolate[2].
Calcium
Calcium plays an important role in the strength of bones and teeth. Milk and dairy products are good sources of calcium , with hard cheese and soft cheese being particularly good sources of calcium . Some vegetables (broccoli, kale and rocket) also contain a lot of calcium. Mineral waters fortified with calcium can also help to cover calcium requirements[3].
