The common evening primrose(Oenothera biennis L.) belongs to the evening primrose genus and the evening primrose family. The plant originates from eastern and central North America and can now also be found in Europe .
The seeds of the common evening primrose are rich in unsaturated fatty acids. Particularly noteworthy are the omega-6 fatty acids , which include gamma-linolenic acid and linoleic acid .
While gamma-linolenic acid is produced in the body from linoleic acid , linoleic acid is essential and must be supplied in sufficient quantities in the diet[1 ].
