What is folate and what effect does it have?
Folate, often referred to as vitamin B9 , is a water-soluble vitamin and belongs to the B vitamins. Folate is an essential vitamin that is not produced by the body but must be obtained through diet or supplements[1].
Folate is vital for the human body and is very important for blood formation and the functioning of the psyche, for example. It is also known as the pregnancy vitamin, as it plays an important role during pregnancy and therefore the daily requirement is increased.[2][3]

Quatrefolic® is a reduced and methylated form of folate. It is biologically active and, unlike synthetically produced folic acid or dietary folate, does not first have to be converted into the metabolically active 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) in a multi-stage process . The biologically active 5-methylfolate Quatrefolic® thus completely bypasses the MTHFR conversion step and provides a "finished" folate that the body can use immediately without any metabolization [5].
In addition, by using Quatrefolic®, Doctor's Best Fully Active Folate 800 can ensure a higher folate uptake as it crosses the gastric barrier and is mainly absorbed in the small intestine[6].
To complete the folate effect, the folate supplement from Doctor's Best has also been enriched with vitamin C.
