What is nattokinase?
Nattokinase is an enzyme that is produced during the manufacture of the traditional Japanese dish natto. Soybeans are fermented with Bacillus subtilis natto, producing the enzyme nattokinase on the one hand and vitamin K2 (MK-7) on the other.
The nattokinase contained in Doctor's Best Nattokinase has been purified and therefore contains no vitamin K2.
Fermented soybean extract containing nattokinase is an approved novel food.
What is nattokinase good for?
Nattokinase has fibrinolytic properties, which means that it is able to break down the fibrin contained in the blood.
The enzymatic activity of nattokinase is expressed in "FU", which means "fibrinolytic units" and describes the ability to cleave fibrin[1].
